Towing safety is one of the most important things you’ll learn as a travel trailer owner. A towing malfunction can result in disaster for both you, and those around you while out on the road, so it’s important that you do your best to prevent potential accidents or mishaps. Tools and Equipment

To ensure your travel trailer doesn’t come untethered or sway dangerously while out on the open road, we recommend purchasing a number of helpful towing accessories to decrease the likelihood of an accident For starters we recommend investing in a set of tow chains for your hitch to ensure it never detaches from your tow vehicle, as well as a handy set of sway bars to keep your model from flipping or overturning. If your travel trailer doesn’t already have a handy hitch or pin lock, we recommend purchasing one and attaching it to your model. 

Balance Luggage

Much like a utility trailer, travel trailers can be put off balance if packed unevenly. When loading your model before your big trip, be careful not to place all of your heavy luggage in one spot. Do your best to spread your various gear throughout your travel trailer, trying to keep an even amount of weight on each side of the model. 

Inspect Tires

A blown-out tire can cause a serious towing accident, and leave your travel trailer and your tow vehicle in serious need of repair. Before you hitch up your RV, be sure to inspect the tires on your vehicle and your travel trailer for any signs of damage or overworn tread. You’ll also need to check the air pressure of each tire to see if any need to be topped off or refilled before you leave.
