Hot weather can make your camper feel stifling in the summer, especially if you don’t have climate control options. Fortunately, there are some strategies you can employ to keep the temperature down in your RV to make it bearable until the sun goes down. Here’s what to try.

Park Away from the Sun

If at all possible, try to avoid parking your RV in full sun. You may be stuck with a camping spot that isn’t shaded, but do what you can. If you can park under a tree or orient the RV so that the door and windows face east instead of west, you can limit how hot your RV gets.

Ventilate Your Camper

Open up the vents in your camper’s roof, along with doors and windows, to allow the air to circulate throughout the entire RV during the day. Add another boost to ventilation with a couple of box fans near the doorways of your RV so that the air is always moving and never stagnant. You can even make what’s called a “swamp cooler” by filling a bucket or bowl with ice water and setting up a small fan behind it. The fan will blow cool air at you as the ice melts.

Keep Windows Covered

Letting the sunlight pour through your RV’s windows can heat up your RV by several degrees. Cover up windows with a reflective bubble film and some white shades or curtains that will deflect the sunlight.
