A Primer on Types of Motorhomes
While you have many options when it comes to recreational vehicles, one of the most convenient choices you can make is to get an RV that provides you with transport and accommodations in one vehicle, otherwise known as a motorhome. However, even if you’ve narrowed your choice down to motorhomes, you still need to understand the three primary types or “classes” of motorhome in order to make your final decision.
Class A Motorhomes
This type of motorhome is the largest of all, built on a bus chassis. The large panoramic window and integrated driving cab are telltale indicators of a Class A motorhome. A typical Class A motorhome may be anywhere from 30’ to 45’ long, likely with some slide-outs to further expand the interior space. Residential-style appliances, plenty of sleeping spaces and lots of room to spread out are the selling points for Class A motorhomes.
Class B Motorhomes
Built on a van chassis, Class B motorhomes are small and compact, which makes them especially popular for couples and travelers on a budget. These motorhomes generally have sleeping space for two to three people maximum, and the accommodations are small, but convenient if you don’t want to camp in a tent and you want more safety and comfort on the road.
Class C Motorhomes
Finally, you have Class C motorhomes, built on a truck chassis, serving as an in-between size. Class C motorhomes are recognizable via their separate driving cab and overhanging alcove. These motorhomes can be rather large “Super C” diesel models, or they can be pretty small and compact. They are easy to learn how to drive, which is a great selling point.
